Description: Bacuri Virgin Butter is very popular in the north of Brazil and comes from the seeds of the Platonia insignis which has a rich pulp, deep colour, and smell. It is rich in methionine, an essential amino acid, the body’s primary source of sulfur. It helps stabilize collagen and elastin production. Fats contained by the bacuri fruit contain elevated amounts of tripalmitin, which makes them highly absorbable. As a result, bacuri can also be employed in the form of an effective moisturizing agent.

I hadn’t heard of this butter before but I love it. The scent is a bit strange, like an exotic liqueur but it dissipates quickly when product is applied. Chemically, it behaves a lot like shea so you can just swap in 25% or 15% bacuir in any recipe. Melted, it’s quite dark but it whips to a lovely cafe au lait colour. It’s extremely gentle and can be used in eye creams.
