Product Description: Asafoetida is the dried latex (gum oleoresin) exuded from the rhizome or tap root of several species of Ferula, a perennial herb that grows 1 to 1.5 m (3.3 to 4.9 ft) tall. It is part of the celery family Apiaceae. Asafoetida contains mainly resin (40–64%), gum (25%), and volatile oil (10–17% on a dry-weight basis). The resin portion consists mainly of asaresinotannol, free or combined with ferulic acid. Umbelliferone seems to be present in combined state. Oil of asafoetida is obtained by steam distillation of the gum resin.
Blends With: Caraway, Onion, Basil, Bay and Cardamom.
Cautions: Dilute before use; for external use only. May cause skin irritation in some individuals; a skin test is recommended prior to use. Contact with eyes should be avoided. Do not ingest.
Storage: It is recommended that oils packaged in metal containers (for safe shipping), be transferred into dark glass containers to maintain freshness and attain maximum shelf life.
