Product Description: Ajowan is an annual herbaceous plant that has grayish- brown fruits. The small fruits are pale brown schizocarps and have an oval shape, resembling caraway and cumin. It has a bitter and pungent taste, with a flavor similar to anise and oregano and has a spicy aroma. The plant is grown mostly in Iran, Egypt, Afghanistan and India and the oil is extracted by means of Steam Distillation. Ajwain oil is obtained from the crushed ajwain seeds by the method referred to as steam distillation. Its seeds include mineral, fiber, moisture, calcium, iron, phosphorous, carotene, thiamine, niacin and riboflavin. Its botanical name is Trachyspermum copticum. This highly popular essential oil is pale yellow brown to brownish liquid. It is preferred to be used in the diluted form as it can cause serious skin irritation.
Cautions: Dilute before use; for external use only. May cause skin irritation in some individuals; a skin test is recommended prior to use. Contact with eyes should be avoided.
Storage: It is recommended that oils packaged in metal containers (for safe shipping), be transferred into dark glass containers to maintain freshness and attain maximum shelf life.
